Ohrid, April 3, 2012 – Representatives from the media, from the Broadcasting Council, as a regulatory body for electronic media, the professional associations of journalists, foreign experts in media regulation today in Ohrid attended the conference “Culture of debate, freedom of expression and independent media “, jointly organised by the EU Delegation to Macedonia and the German Foundation “Konrad Adenauer”.

The Member of the Broadcasting Council, Mr. Zoran Trajchevski, addressing the challenges of media regulation stated: “Although the Law on Broadcasting is not very old, because of the dynamic nature of the media sector, it should be reformed. The main challenge – I want to mention here – is the introduction of digital television services.”

New technologies, that are emerging on the media market, offer the opportunity for further promotion of freedom of expression and freedom of the media: “There is no doubt that the development of converting technologies and markets needs a modern and flexible regulatory framework. In this context we must consider reforming the rules for concentration along the horizontal axis, allowing media companies to grow organically through the development of complementary audio-visual media services. “- added Trajchevski.

At the conference, which ends tomorrow, active contribution to the discussion was also given by the member of BC, Zamir Mehmeti and the Head of the Department for European and International Cooperation of the Broadcasting Council, MA Borche Manevski also participated.
