June 06, 2012 Three days of interdiction for advertising and tele shopping of TV Kanal 5

Skopje, June 06, 2012 – the Broadcasting Council today issued the measure ‘’three days of interdiction for advertising and tele shopping’’ to Kanal 5 TV, because of broadcasting promotional advertising video on the 20th and the 21st June, by which the broadcasting Activity Law was violated.

The analysis of the broadcasted promotional video, whose primary purpose was to announce a new TV series, showed that Kanal 5 TV has violated article 87 from the Broadcasting Activity Law, i.e. this broadcaster broadcasted an advertising video for self promotional purposes that is untrue (false airplane accident) and that it has seduced the public (broadcasting of a promotional video in the form of exceptional news). The Broadcasting Council concluded as well a violation of the law by the fact that Kanal 5 TV in a commercial for self promotional purposes uses a person that regularly presents the news, which means that the article 105 from the law was violated.
The emergency session of the BC was held because of the great number of complaints from the citizens that felt disturbed from the promotional advertising videos.
