Skopje, February 21, 2024 – The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services strongly condemns the statement of the president of the political party SDSM, Dimitar Kovacevski, with which he accused the media of “selling themselves and even now selling themselves” and putting themselves in the function of a political party.
Politicians should be aware of the responsibility they have and instead of using inappropriate communication, they should show the highest level of respect for the journalistic profession and one of the key pillars of democracy – the media. Labeling the media, especially in sensitive periods such as pre-elections, negatively affects the freedom of expression and violates the dignity of media workers.
The agency reminds that it is necessary to respect the standards and calls on politicians to refrain from using language that discredits the media.
