Skopje, 11 December 2016 – Further to the action proposals submitted by the Ad Hoc Committee for Observing Media Coverage, the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services has initiated misdemeanor proceedings requesting the court to pronounce misdemeanor sanctions in the form of warnings against eight television stations and two radio stations.
Misdemeanor procedures have been initiated against TV Alsat-M DOO Skopje, TV Kanal 5 DOOEL Skopje, TV Telma DOOEL Skopje, TV Shenja DOOEL Skopje and TV 24 Vesti DOOEL Shtip, due to violation of Article 75, Paragraphs 1 and 2, and Article 75-a, Paragraph 1, Point b, and Paragraph 2, of the Electoral Code, which refer to ensuring balanced coverage of the participants in the electoral process within their entire programmes, and the former’s representation in tune with the principle of proportionality based on the number of verified lists of MP candidates.
There has been one more misdemeanour procedure initiated against TV Shenja DOOEL Skopje, due to its failure to observe the rules for announcing the results of a public opinion survey, stipulated by Article 77, Paragraph 2, of the Electoral Code.
Due to violations against articles of the Electoral Code referring to paid political advertising, misdemeanour procedures have been initiated against TV ART DOO Tetovo, HDTV Kanal Plus DOOEL Skopje, TV Edo DOOEL s. Ljubin, Saraj, Radio Slobodna Makedonija DOOEL Skopje and Radio Antena 5 DOO Skopje.
