Skopje, 13 October 2017 – The election campaign for the first round of 2017 Local Elections ends tonight at midnight, giving way to the election silence that will last until 19.00 hrs on Sunday, 15 October 2017.
During the election silence, there will be reporting about the elections and the course of voting, however all forms of electoral presentation in the media shall halt. In line with the Electoral Code, considered as violation of the electoral silence shall be any airing of information, photographs, audio or audiovisual materials related to or involving participants in the elections; any forms of media reporting that are openly or covertly serving one’s election campaign and can influence the voters’ decision; data revealing the identity of the political entities and/or individuals involved in incidents or other irregularities on the Election Day, as well as statements by electoral candidates, political party representatives and government officials.
The Agency hereby reminds the broadcasters that they should adapt their programmes accordingly, immediately after the start of the election silence so as to avoid committing any violation of the same, due to the fact that, as stipulated by the Electoral Code, the only consequent measure is the initiating of a misdemeanor procedure before the competent court.
