Public Consultation Opened on the Draft-Guidelines for Broadcasters for the 2025 Local Elections

Skopje, 24 September 2025 – At its 11th Session held today, the Council of the Agency adopted the Draft Guidelines for Broadcasters for the 2025 Local Elections.

The preparation of this document was preceded by several consultations with the institutions holding competencies related to the electoral process, including the State Election Commission (SEC), the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC), and the State Audit Office. Regarding identified ambiguities in the Electoral Code that affect the allocation of airtime for paid political advertising (PPA) among broadcasters and the disbursement of budget funds for PPA by the SEC, the four institutions jointly informed the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia through an official communication.

The purpose of the Draft Guidelines is to clarify the implementation of the provisions from the Electoral Code related to broadcasters for the 2025 Local Elections. These include the allocation of airtime for paid political advertising (PPA), the identification of the sponsor of the advertisement, the allocation of time in the news programmes of the Public Broadcasting Service, the free political representation on the Parliamentary Channel, and the ensuring of accessibility of election-related content for persons with disabilities.

The Agency invites all interested parties to take part in the public consultation by submitting their opinions and suggestions regarding the Draft Guidelines electronically to the following email address: contact@avmu.mk, no later than Thursday, 25 September 2025, by 16:30.
