AVMU Reacts to Threats Against Journalist Aleksandar Vidinovski

Skopje, 4 February 2026 – The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AVMU) expresses serious concern regarding the attacks, denigration and death threats directed at Kanal 5 Television journalist Aleksandar Vidinovski. The reaction follows his social media post referring to illegally parked vehicles on the sidewalk in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Skopje.

Such actions constitute a direct attack on the safety of journalists and a serious violation of freedom of expression and the public’s right to be informed. Journalists have the right and the obligation to report on matters of public interest without being exposed to pressure, threats, or violence.

Death threats are particularly alarming, as they constitute a criminal offense and require urgent and effective action by the competent institutions. AVMU expects the relevant authorities to examine these cases with due attention and to provide appropriate protection, thereby contributing to a clear and consistent practice that threats, hate speech, and online violence against journalists are unacceptable.
