Skopje, 24 August, 2023 – Director of the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services Zoran Trajchevski and Chairman of the Commission for the Prevention of and Protection against Discrimination Ismail Kamberi signed a Memorandum today, aimed at expanding cooperation, especially in the sphere of preventing discrimination in the programmes of audio and audiovisual media service providers and the video-sharing platforms.
This cooperation shall be implemented in specific cases of inciting or spreading discrimination, intolerance or hatred in the programmes where, for the purpose of greater efficiency, the Agency shall have authority over the providers of audio and audiovisual media services and the video-sharing platforms, while the Commission shall take action regarding the media workers.
Special attention will be dedicated to promoting freedom of expression, fostering equality and preventing discrimination, protecting the interests of the users of audio and audiovisual media services, encouraging media literacy, organizing workshops, seminars, public interest campaigns, etc., as well as fostering the culture of public dialogue among the citizens in order to strengthen mutual understanding and tolerance for the purpose of promoting relations among the various communities.
Both parties share the stance that mutual cooperation and the activities that will follow will contribute to greater compliance with the provisions of the Law on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services and the Law on Preventing and Protection against Discrimination on the part of the providers of audio and audiovisual media services, media workers and the video -sharing platforms.
