Skopje, 22 April 2024 – The election campaign for the first round of the 2024 Presidential Elections ends today, which means that the election silence begins at midnight and lasts until 19:00 hrs on the 24th of April 2024.
During the election silence, on April 23 and 24 (until 19:00 hrs), the media coverage of both the Presidential and the Parliamentary Elections in the newscasts and in the special-information shows of the participants in the election campaigns shall halt.
According to the Electoral Code, considered as violation of the election silence shall be the broadcasting of: any information, photographs, audio and audiovisual materials related to or involving participants in the elections, any forms of media reporting that openly or covertly serve one’s election campaign and may influence the electors’ decision, data revealing the identity of the political entities and/or individuals involved in incidents or other irregularities on the day of voting, as well as statements by candidates in the electoral process, participants in an election campaign, representatives of political parties and office holders in government bodies.
During this period, broadcasting shall be allowed of the free political presentations and paid political advertising of the participants in the election campaign for the Parliamentary Elections.
During the days of election silence, also allowed shall be the broadcasting of the educational advertising campaign of the State Election Commission (SEC) for the 2024 Elections.
The Agency expects all broadcasters to adjust their programming to the election silence, starting at midnight tonight.
