Skopje, 15 April 2026 – The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services expresses concern regarding a statement by the President of the SDSM political party, Venko Filipche, which included allegations and claims regarding the political and financial dependence of Alfa TV.
Publicly labelling media outlets and using them as instruments in political confrontations is inconsistent with democratic principles and the right to freedom of expression. It is unacceptable for public office holders to use discrediting rhetoric that fuels polarization in the media sphere and risks undermining public trust in the media.
Where there are suspicions of possible unlawful conduct or irregularities in the operation of media outlets, these should be referred to the competent institutions for appropriate action, rather than raised through public accusations or political characterizations.
The Agency calls on all political actors to communicate in a responsible and constructive manner and to refrain from statements that could undermine trust in the media or place pressure on their work.
