Skopje, 26 October 2026 – From today until 2 November, Media Literacy Days 2026 (MLD) will take place, organised by the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AVMU) and the Media Literacy Network (MLN). For the eighth time, our country is joining the celebration of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week. The programme for MLD 2026 is available at the link.
As AVMU Deputy Director Muhamer Beqiri emphasized at today’s press conference, Media Literacy Days will take place under the motto “We All Have a Role to Play”, which is directly linked to the theme of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week: “We All Have a Role to Play – Media and Information Literacy for People”. This year’s key message is precisely that each individual, every organization, institution and media outlet—in short, each and every one of us—should reflect on how we can contribute to improving our collective ability to recognise malicious or inaccurate information, use our screen time constructively, and harness the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence for the common good.
Luciano Scambiato Licciardi, Team Leader for Communication and Press at the Delegation of the European Union, also addressed the event. Speaking about the importance of media literacy, he mentioned Escape Fake, an interactive game developed in the European Union with the support of the Creative Europe programme. During Media Literacy Days, from 26 to 30 October, all Europe House centres across the country will organize workshops for secondary school students, giving them the opportunity to try out the game and put their critical thinking skills to the test.
Alongside the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services, the organisations participating in the organization of MLD 2026 include the Institute of Communication Studies, the Macedonian Institute for Media, the Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia, the National Youth Council of Macedonia, Lice v Lice, the Metamorphosis Foundation in cooperation with its partner organisation Innovative Media, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, and the Resource Centre for Parents of Children with Special Needs.
The events taking place as part of Media Literacy Days will be held in Skopje, Gostivar, Strumica, Bitola, Veles, Struga and Tetovo. These events will engage young people, particularly secondary school students, their teachers, policymakers and decision-makers, people from various marginalized groups, as well as persons with disabilities and their parents.
