Report on the Media Coverage of the Second Round of the Election Campaign

The Government Does Not Respect Brussels’ Recommendations for Independence of the Media Regulator

Second Report on Media Coverage of the 2019 Presidential Elections 2019 Released

Skopje, 9 April 2019 – The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services prepared the Second Monitoring Report on the Media Coverage of the 2019 Presidential Elections, which refers to the period from 7 until 31 March, 2019. Rules for Paid Political Programme Are the Focus of the First Public Meeting

Skopje, 29 March 2019 – Today, the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services held its First Public Meeting in 2019. At the meeting, Agency Director Zoran Trajcevski presented the activities conducted during the previous quarter, in accordance with the Agency’s Annual Work Programme, which involved the supervisions carried out over broadcasters, print media publishers an operators of public electronic communications networks, the monitoring of media coverage of the presidential elections, the public warnings pronounced and the activities in the international sphere.[…]

NEW AMENDMENTS TO THE ELECTORAL CODE ONLY FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE START OF THE CAMPAIGN

Skopje, 28 March 2019 – The Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia adopted amendments to the Electoral Code through a shortened procedure and without any more extensive debate, only five days before the start of the election campaign. The goal of these amendments was allegedly to harmonize the provisions of the Electoral Code, however, what was achieved is exactly the opposite, especially with regard to paid political advertising.[…]
